How Come???

Just a brief question, How come everyone remembers the bad old Year?? Surely some occurances were good for most of us. For me , the Yankees won again, we elected a new administration (even tho' it is unproven as a better one yet) and I lived another year,( that is good for me). I am sure I could come up with more but I at least am trying to be positive during tough times for the country and most of the world. We should all dwell on the positive and learn from the negative.

PIE

Pie!! Current mood: discontent
Apple Pie Economics___Everyone seems to enjoy a good piece of pie. I know I do! With a little ice cream on the side. The make up of a good pie is this: A good base crust , a lot of good things mixed together for the center to support the upper crust and a good upper crust to top it off.Our society is made up of an upper crust of wealthy people and supposedly good leaders. ( are they the same people?) The filling is a laaaarrrggge group of good people who need to work hard and work together to support the upper crust. Then the bottom layer are the old folks who contributed to society in the past and can be termed as the base of society since this is where all things were initiated. They weren't as able as others and did not become the upper crust though they are made of the same stuff. All of there past sucess has trickled up to the top.The upper crust usually enhances the pie. A good crust contributes good taste to the whole pie as does the filling. Again, the filling supports the top. A bad crust soaks up the best part of the filling and gives nothing back.It leaks and the goods trickle out to the side and out of the pan,(country) It goes where it does who knows what? A whip cream top represents the politicians, full of air and usually they look good on TV.Forgive this effort, it is an insult to good pie but something made me do it.1HAIKUThe bailout of AIG was a huge insult to you and me.NJM

Why__--??

Why are the only jobs truly available to young workers inadequate to raise a family on?

Why do we have so many young families, or people who can't afford to buy a home or health insurance or other necessities??

Why are there so many homeless people??

Why do the costs of food, shelter, health care and transportation seem to be so much higher for the young and the old??

Enough of those easily answered questions> Now for a message I rrecieved in my email today. It was labled as profound and I agree.

A Simple Truth.......
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve ?
is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made
payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of ?Up to and
including my life.?

Limeric

Limeric

Since St, Patricks day is near , a limeric may be in order. These are short and direct and sometimes funny. Here goes:

I came in out of the weather,
Feeling lite as a feather.
I sat in my chair,
The dog had been there,
Now I had to hook him out on his tether!

Dog owners should know what I mean.

> A DEA agent, together with an ATF and an FBI agent, as part of a task> force, arrive at a ranch in western Nebraska. The agents tell the> rancher, "We need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The> old rancher says, "Okay, but don't go in that field over there." The DEA> agent verbally explodes saying, "Mister, we have the authority of the> Federal Government with us." Reaching into his rear pocket and removing> his badge, the agent proudly displays it to the farmer. "See this badge?> This badge means we are allowed to go wherever we wish on any land. No> questions asked nor answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you> understand?" The old rancher nods politely and goes about his chores.> Later, the old rancher hears loud screams and spies the three agents> running for their lives and close behind is the rancher's bull. With> every step the bull is gaining ground on the agents. They are clearly> terrified. The old rancher immediately throws down his tools, runs to the> fence and yells at the top of his lungs..... "Your badges! Show him your> badges!"
Author Unknown(but knowledgeable)

This is a good representation of how government operates. One of the common responses to probing questions on any program or project is "Don;t worry about that, we will take care of it." Citizens input and curiosity is given word of mouth but most of it is evasive and /or double talk.

We are supposed to trust them implicitly but how many large and small scandals or corruptions happen each year.

I don't do enough of it but it is fun and important that we attend and take interest in all the meetings that are offered in the local political arena. I could tell you some stories but I would be typing all night.Silent majority and Middle Americans have to speak up and be involved. That is the only way the politicos can know that they are representing us and our views.
